1. Use of technology to assist language earning

A variety of e-learning tools are used to enrich students’ learning experiences.  During lessons, we borrow iPads and use various apps to consolidate their understanding on the textbook content.   In addition, our school successfully bid the QEF in 2018 which allowed us to install the interactive whiteboards in P.1 to P.4. Through interacting with the whiteboard, students’ motivation in learning English is greatly boosted. With the help of different online platforms such as Raz-kids, Seesaw and Google classroom, students also engage in self-learning activities and present their learning outcome after class.

2. Guided Reading programme in P.2 and P.3

With the help of the EDB NET section, our school is currently running a Guided Reading programme in P. 2 and P. 3.  Students are levelled according to their reading proficiency and divided into small groups of 8-9 students each.  During the lesson, the Native English Teacher or local teacher chooses readers that suit their level and match their interests, so as to promote their reading skills.  With a smaller teacher-to-student ratio, the individual learning needs of the students can be catered.

3. Reading-across curriculum in P. 4 to P. 6

Our school successfully bid the PEEGS funding in 2018 and developed the Reading-across-Curriculum (RAC) programme in P. 4 to P. 6, which expose students to various text-types written in authentic English.  Two lessons each week are devoted to RAC, and the content is an extension of what they learnt in the core curriculum.  Through the use of multimodal online texts, students can acquire more world knowledge, develop an interest in reading non-fictions and most importantly, hone their reading skills so they can become independent readers.
